GETTING HERE IS PART OF THE JOURNEY

You can arrive by land, driving through the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve along a scenic dirt road that stretches for more than 36 kilometers. Along the way, the lagoon, mangroves and the Caribbean Sea frame the journey, with frequent sightings of seabirds, osprey, coatis and untouched beaches. You can also arrive by boat. Travelers reach the Sian Ka’an pier by van or taxi and board next to El Último Maya, a local landmark. From there, the route continues through ancient Mayan channels once used as trade routes and port access. Today, these calm waterways pass through mangroves and lagoons where dolphins, turtles, birds in flight and, with some luck, manatees can be seen.
